Our Team

Hampton Johnston

Hamp Johnston, a Chattanooga native, brings over 30 years of banking experience—virtually all of it rooted in the local market. After earning his BA from Washington and Lee University in 1993, Hamp launched his career in a commercial lending training program in Memphis. He later graduated from The Graduate School of Banking at LSU and built a diverse banking background spanning correspondent banking, business banking, middle market banking, private banking and trust.

Since 2006, Hamp has led high-performing teams, culminating in his role as East Tennessee Market Executive for JPMorgan Chase before co-founding RockPointBank. RockPointBank opened in March 2021 with a mission to serve Chattanooga’s businesses professionals. The bank has raised over $50 million in capital—primarily from local investors—and remains locally owned and managed, filling a critical gap left by industry consolidation.

Deeply committed to Chattanooga, Hamp has served in leadership roles such as Past President of the McCallie Alumni Council and the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club and graduated from Leadership Chattanooga and the Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute. Education has always been a priority for him. He currently serves on the boards of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, Girls Preparatory School (GPS), and Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy (CGLA), and is an active member of the Downtown Chattanooga Rotary
